judging sheepdog trials
Information on this page is designed to assist handlers in understanding how runs are being judged, help aspiring judges develop their judging skills, and allow experienced judges review their knowledge.
USBCHA Judging Guidelines
In order to educate both judges and competitors, the USBCHA assembled detailed judging guidelines that attempt to standardize the way sheepdog trials are judged by providing more detail and specifics on the numerous situations that can occur and how they should be scored:
- Part 1: Introduction
- Part 2: General
- Part 3: Scoring a National-Style Course
- Part 4: International Gather (170 Points)
A downloadable PDF version of the guidelines can be found here.
USBCHA Judging Video
In collaboration with Dave Imas and Catbird Video, the USBCHA has produced a video featuring respected judges discussing their judging philosophies and methods followed by narrated judging of several runs at real trials.
Contact Dave Imas if you’d like to purchase an .MP4 copy of the video on a flash drive.
